ISDN

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a fully digital network access service that integrates voice and data over standard copper telephone wiring. ISDN Primary Rate Interface (PRI) is an enhanced T1 that has 23 bearer or B-channels that carry data, voice, and other services and 1 delta or D-channel that carries control and signaling information. ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI) provides 2 bearer or B-channels and 1 delta or D-channel. ISDN BRI provides 64 Kbps or 128 Kbps bandwidth for data connectivity.

Features

  • Dedicated PRI (Primary Rate Interface) Access or Switched PRI / BRI (Basic Rate Interface) Access
  • Carries digital voice and data traffic across Norlight's Long Distance network
  • Inbound and outbound calling
  • End to end ISDN connection
  • Origination and termination anywhere the Local Exchange Carrier supports ISDN

Benefits

ISDN DATA

  • Supports multiple data applications, including desktop and room videoconferencing, and LAN access and file transfer in a PBX environment for telecommuters
  • Faster and more consistent bandwidth compared with an analog modem
  • Better quality and call throughput compared with an analog modem

ISDN VOICE

  • Faster call setup - Provides a higher overall throughput of calls on each voice channel
  • Better trunk utilization - Voice channels are not occupied until the call is completed
  • More detailed call information - Broadens the information that is generated by a call or call attempt - Primary rate ISDN trunks integrate with computer-telephony systems to deliver screen POPs for customer service applications
  • Ideal for customer service and telemarketing call centers

Applications

ISDN DATA

  • Video conferencing: Implemented with the appropriate hardware and customer equipment, Norlight ISDN supports high quality point to point and multipoint desktop and room videoconferencing.
  • Telecommuting: ISDN carries voice, data and video over a single line. With Norlight ISDN, telecommuters can access the corporate LAN at much faster speeds than with an analog modem, and without tying up their phone line.
  • Private line overflow and disaster recovery: You can use ISDN as a low cost protection scheme to keep your network up and running in the event your existing dedicated data connection (Private line or Frame Relay for example) goes down.
  • Local area network interconnection: You can use Norlight ISDN to transfer data and connect your multiple business locations. This allows you to create an effective Wide Area Network (WAN) between locations.

ISDN VOICE

  • Call centers: Norlight ISDN provides better trunk utilization and detailed call information particularly efficient in a call center environment.
  • Private branch exchange: Norlight ISDN adds efficiency to any Private Branch Exchange environment.
