7 Good Reasons

Why Does The World Need The Guardians of Data?

REASON #68: Because people need to sleep at night, instead of just lie there and worry.

7 Good Reasons To Become A Guardian of Data

At Norlight, Quality is job one. It also happens to be jobs 2 through 10. All we worry about is quality. Even the time we spend worrying is considered quality time. And contrary to popular belief, all that worrying doesn't net us an ulcer, it secures us space in the hearts and minds of our customers. Are you a world-class worrier, too? Have people told you that you care too much about your customers?

Maybe you've now found the right place to work.

If you need a little more convincing, here's why it's cool to be a Guardian of Data.

1. Yet another promise you can depend on. We've pledged to never take our eyes off our customers' data. Having a clear understanding of what's expected of you makes it easy to come to work each day. We'll give you the tools you need to do your job and a line of sight to the customer. At Norlight, every Guardian is empowered to do whatever it takes to keep our customers satisfied (within reason, of course).

2. "Only through the individual success of each Guardian can organizational success be achieved". Ok - our president said that and we know it sounds officious, but it's true. We care about your success. That's why at Norlight, performance management is not a once-a-year event -- it's an employee-driven, ongoing cycle of activities. As if that's not reason enough to pay attention, consider this -- Norlight's salary philosophy is to directly link increases in a Guardian's pay to performance. (Maybe we should have started off with that last sentence.) We also have systems in place that afford our Guardians the opportunity to develop and attain their career goals while working here. After all, we want that newly acquired brain power applied right here at Norlight.

3. Getting plugged in to the Guardian vibe. Norlight's Guardian Council helps to ensure that we all feel valued for who we are, they provide recognition and celebration, keep us involved in things going on in the community, and keep us aware of important company events and happenings. Like to throw a good party? Looking for ways to make a difference? This is the team for you.

4. Do the Guardians of Data help people out of the goodness of their hearts? Well...yes and no. We all appreciate the joy of doing a job, and doing it well. But, just in case that's not enough incentive, we have rewards for those of you who help Norlight succeed. In the immortal words of Carl the Greenskeeper in Caddyshack, "How 'bout a little something, you know, for the effort?" Recognizing, rewarding and retaining high performing Guardians is an important element in Norlight's success.

5. Open doors are to be expected in cube-land, but we mean it figuratively, too. Have a product idea you want to bounce off the Chief Technology Officer? An opinion about how to better handle service installations? A plan for how to build the Guardians of Data brand? The lack of hierarchy around here makes it possible for Guardians to contribute their ideas and see them take flight. That and the fact that it's hard to contain an idea in a cube.

6. Have a penchant for warped wood paneling, smoking at your desk, hand-me-down office furniture, and Windows 98? OK - this is not the place for you. Norlight's corporate headquarters in Brookfield, WI and Evansville, IN were built according to our demanding specifications and include all the amenities befitting a Guardian of Data. Take a look at the pictures of our Network Management Center to see for yourself.

7. Your evenings and weekends should be exactly that - YOURS. Sure, there are times when you may have to work late or come in early to get that special project completed on time. But at the same time, we try to make your life easier. We'll arrange to pick up your dry cleaning and have your film developed for you right here at the office or have a tasty sub sandwich delivered to you at work so that you don't have to go outside in the winter.
